Pokemon Charcoal is a ROM, that runs on the computer, to play it you need an emulator. An emulator is a program that mimics another prgram, in this case the emulator is copying the actions of a gameboy. There are many gameboy emulators, but the best is VBA (Visual Boy Advance) with VBA you can play games from a gameboy, gameboy color, and gameboy advance. VBA also has a built in gameshark, so you can put in cheat codes, click here to download VBA, also it's free! Most people when first playing can't understand the controls so to make things easy for you, I'm going to list the controls here.
Up=Up Arrow
Left=Left Arrow
Right=Right Arrow
Down=Down Arrow
A=Z
B=X
L=A
R=S
Start=Enter
Select=Backspace
If these aren't the controls, when in the emulator go to Options- Joypad- Configure Joypad- 1..., there you will see the controls, feel free to change them, but I recommend what I have listed.
